Illustration Friday: "Detach"

Is there any creature that appears to be more detached from the world around him than a sleeping cat?  This particular kitty is our Elmer.  I thought he was a "tuxedo" cat, but just recently found out that he is a "cow" or "moo" kitty. It seems he could only be called by the more elegant name if he had a completely black "overcoat."  Speaking of detached, Elmer detached himself from our home two years ago when our cocker spaniel, Opal, came to live with us---we see him occasionally around the neighborhood---guess he's living off the land.

This is simply gorgeous! What a wonderfully graceful kitty! Love the combination of the pattern of the cat and the pattern of the blanket! Marvelous illo!

I love the play of the cat & pillow spots! And yes, they are the epitome of detachment. One of my most vivid memories of September 11 is looking down at my two peacefully sleeping cats & thinking how lucky they were to exist in their detached feline world.

Great illustration of independent Elmer! I really like your technique, the stippling and the limited palette, it's wonderful. And you've captured his pose perfectly, he does seem quite detached from the world!

Thanks so much for letting me know you understand my entry. I was starting to doubt myself. I'm glad you led me to yours. It is lovely. I especially like the way the polka dots relate with his spots.

Oh Elmer! I do love a cow kitty and what a gorgeous rendering of him! I agree, kitties can, at least come off like they're very detached. Such mind games they play, those kitties.

Elmer looks so "detached"! We have 4 kitties. Carmen is a tuxedo, a term I just found out about & it certainly fits her attitude. Love your image! Just saw your note on my site--I think with 300# wc paper you probably don't need to stretch it. Love you work & blog.

Thank you for your comment on my "detach". No wonder you like my blog, it's the same design as yours!! You're absolutely correct about cats. Our cat Rose is the most detached I know. How do they manage to look so completely comfortable all the time!?! Love this illustration!
